AVD Deployment – BICEP (2024)

Apologies but it appears that it’s taken longer than anticipated for me to get back into the blogging spirit. I think I am not ready to start working on my review of my existing AVD deployment. script.

There have been a number of changes to Azure and AVD since the original blogs were written such as Ephmeral disk support, Intune for Personal Hosts, Trusted Launch VMs and AAD-Join.

I did make some smaller updates to cover some of these points, but I thought why not write a new blog series covering the updates to the deployment script to bring it up to date?

Plus, the fact when looking back at the current scripting I can see a number of improvements I’d like to make (I’m never happy).

The main goal of this little project will be to provide a clear tutorial for people to follow in order to easily setup deployment automation for their AVD environments.

One of the main changes will be to move away from Azure DevOps classic pipelines to a YAML approach. Hopefully doing this will enable me to provide templates for people to use, and make it easier for people to follow along.

I am working on the first part now so hopefully will have this up within the next week or two.

James
